2010 Bespy's

The Bespy's are awarded annually
in seven different categories to two-year institutions in North America—or to departments or units within those institutions—that distinguish themselves through their innovative approaches and development of best practices. Individuals may apply on behalf of their own institutions or nominate other institutions using the form found here. Applications and nominations will be judged by a panel of two-year college experts from around the country.

2011 Bespy's Categories

Classroom teaching. Given to the institution (or to a department within that institution) that has shown the most support for the teaching and learning process and/or has developed the most innovative strategies for improving teaching.

Online learning and information technology. Given to the institution that has done the most to promote and expand online learning or demonstrated the most innovative uses of information technology as a means to reach students and other constitutents.

Retention. Given to the institution whose student retention efforts have been most effective, based on measurable statistics, and/or that has developed the most innovative strategies for retaining current students.

Student Affairs/Customer Service. Given to the institution that has developed the most innovative and effective means for dealing with students’ issues and/or has shown the most measurable improvement in customer satisfaction.

Marketing and Public Relations. Given to the institution that has done the best job of marketing itself and its programs to the surrounding community, and/or that has developed the most innovative and effective means of “branding” itself, and/or that has developed the most effective public relations strategy.

“Green” Initiatives. Given to the institution that has taken the most innovative and effective steps to decrease its impact on the environment and/or to promote “green” awareness among students, employees, and community members.

Financial Affairs and Administrative Services. Given to the institution that has developed the most efficient and/or innovative strategies for dealing with financial issues within the college, responding to financial crises, and/or promoting responsible fiscal policies.
